Big Band Jazz

"For Rob and Bob," dedicated to Rob McConnell and Bob Florence, is one of my original Big Band compositions. From the the De Anza Daddios CD, "Inner Voices," directed by Steve Tyler. Soloists are Ken Feliciano - piano, Steve Tyler - trombone, and David Brigham - flugelhorn.

"Licked Clean," comp/arr by David Metzger, was recorded by the SF Bay Area big band, Full Spectrum Jazz, on their CD "Rayna's Dance." Band recording directed by Steve Tyler. Soloists are Steve Tyler - trombone, Sebastian Lanson - guitar, and Antony Pickard - alto sax. (Visit www.fsjazz.com to order CD!)

"And Miles To Go" by Tom Scott, arranged for Big Band by Dirk Fischer, from the De Anza Daddios CD "Inner Voices." Soloists are Oscar Pangilinan - tenor sax, and Steve Tyler - trombone.

Traditional Jazz

"Dippermouth Blues," the great Louis Armstrong tune, as recorded by the Hot Frogs Jumping Jazz Band. Soloists are Joe Ashworth - clarinet, Lance MacLean - banjo, Mark Allen Jones - piano, Steve Tyler - trombone, and Mike Silverman - trumpet.

Concert Band

During my time at Southwestern Community College, I directed the evening Community Concert Band. Here is our performance of Vaughan Williams' "English Folk Song Suite."

"Toward A New Life" was written by Czech composer Josef Suc for the 1932 Olympic Games, where it won a silver medal! It was recorded by John Williams on the CD "Summon the Heroes," released just prior to the 1996 Olympics. Here is the SWCC Community Concert Band's performance.

The SWCC Community Concert Band performs Aaron Copland's "Simple Gifts."

"Farewell Blues," recorded by Janet Carroll and the Hollywood Jazz Cats, Steve Tyler, director. Soloists are Dwight Kennedy - banjo, Geoff Nudell - clarinet, Corey Gemme - trumpet, Steve Tyler - trombone, and Joe Tenney - drums.
